This paper describes the necessary steps required to monitor entry to the Jamarat station on the tenth day of Dou al Hijja and report on pilgrims movements. It also describes a proposed cheap automated visual surveillance system for Jamarat which could be developed in future and implemented. This system aims at making Jamarat ritual safer by automatically opening and closing barriers to allow a specified number of Hajjis to move between them and thus detecting at an early stage dangerous situations which may lead to overcrowding. In order to achieve this, people are tracked across the station and their behaviors analyzed by numerous cameras all along the Muzdalifa –Minan road. A prototype system may be built and tested, proving the feasibility of the automated barriers and visual surveillance system.
