A Comparative Study of the Forms of International Education in Secondary Education in Egypt and Some Western European Countries Introduction Much change has occurred in the world which was a result of the advance in communication means which played an important role in tying up the parts of the world and the approach of their peoples which agreed on the need of peace spreading , International Understanding and co-operation and specially in the difficulties and wars taking place in the world . Since its establishment , the UNESCO tried to spread world peace through its main activities in the fields of education , sciences and culture , and also promoted the idea of International Understanding through education . And thus , appeared the idea of International Education with its activities and different forms : the ASP net , UNESCO Clubs , and International Dimension in parts of curricula and subjects . The Research Problem The forms of International Education in secondary education in Egypt suffer from many problems which prevent the achievement of its aims . The problem of the research , then ,is : How the forms of International Education can be developed in secondary education in Egypt in the light of Western European countries experiences ? The main question of the research includes the following sub-questions: 1- What are the forms of International Education in secondary education in the light of contemporary thought ? 2- What are the actual forms of International Education in Egypt , and the forces and factors affecting them ? 3- What are the actual forms of International Education in Switzerland and Finland , and the forces and factors affecting them ? 4- What are the procedures suggested for the development of International Education forms in secondary education in Egypt in the light of the comparative study , and which goes along with the Egyptian society ? The Research Hypotheses The main hypotheses of the research are : 1-The broadening of the International Education forms are tied up with the means taken by the society for developing education for understanding and peace . 2-The existence of co-ordination between the national commissions ,ASP schools , and UNESCO Clubs can contribute in activating their role in promoting education for understanding and peace . 3-The existence of a clear philosophy which can contribute in establishing programs and activities for the development of the International Education concepts. The Research Limits The research is limited to the study of International Education forms in Secondary education (ASP net , UNESCO Clubs , and related curricula ) , in relation to the measures of applying them , philosophy and aims , programs and activities . The comparing countries are Finland and Switzerland . The Research Aims and Importance The research aims at knowing the International Education forms in secondary education in the light of contemporary educational thought . The importance of the research is related to Egypt’s taking care of world attitude in including the International Dimension in education. The Research Method George Bereday’s approach is used which includes 4 steps : description and analysis , interpretation , juxtaposition and comparison . The Research Plan The research is in seven chapters as follows : Chapter I : The general frame of the research . Chapter II : Description and analysis of International Education forms in the light of contemporary education thought. Chapter III : Description and analysis of International Education forms in Egyptian secondary education in relation to the measures of applying them , philosophy and aims , programs and activities. Chapter IV : Description and analysis of International Education forms of secondary education in Finland in relation to the above 3 items . Chapter V: Description and analysis of International Education forms of secondary education in Switzerland in relation to the above 3 items . Chapter VI: A comparative study of International Education forms in -2- secondary education in Egypt and the compared countries in 2 steps : A. A primary comparative (Juxtaposition) study between Egypt and the 2 countries . B. A critical comparative study between Egypt and the 2 countries Chapter VII : The Research Results and Recommendations, which includes : A. The truthness of the hypotheses is assured . B. Generally , there is a world understanding of the role of education for the purpose of achieving International Understanding and World Peace . C. In relation to Egypt , there is a need for having a national plan for applying International Education in Egyptian Secondary Education, the contribution and co-ordination of the Ministry of Education , National Commission and Faculties of Education need more efforts in applying the idea of International Education . D. Suggestions and Recommendations 1-Taking the main authorities in the country a role in the idea of International Education . 2-Activating the role of the Faculties of Education in the International Education field . 3-Promoting the movement of expanding the idea of the ASP net and UNESCO Clubs . 4-Giving care to the ASP coordinators and UNESCO Clubs supervisors . 5- Encouragement of Non – Governmental Organizations ( NGOs ) and Business Men in promoting the ASP net and UNESCO Clubs activities
