This study has aimed to analyze the books of religious education through the disclosure of the availability of child rights concepts in the books of religious education at the basic education -the second stage-in the Syrian Arab Republic and their adequacy from the teachers and supervisors’ Point of view.
And this has required to answer the following questions:
1. What are the child’s rights should be available in the content of religious education at the basic education -the second stage-in the Syrian Arab Republic for the academic year 2008 -2009 A.C.?
2. what extent are the child rights availability in the books of religious education at the basic education -the second stage-in the Syrian Arab Republic for the academic year 2008 -2009 A.C.?
3. What is the range of their adequacy from the viewpoint of teachers and supervisors? This can be divided into :
• What is Their adequacy from the teachers’ point of view?
• What is Their adequacy from the supervisors’ viewpoint ?
The researcher has adopted the descriptive analytic method in this study. Through this method the researcher tries to describe the phenomenon, analysis its data, show the relationship between its components, the views put around it, the processes it includes and effects they produced.
The study sample has included (284) male and female teachers of religious education, and (64) supervisors in the Syrian Arab Republic to the basic education -the second stage for the academic year 2009/2010 A.C. , The questionnaire has been distributed to members of the sample (10%) of the original members of the community.
The tools of the study have been:
First: the list of the child rights concepts, the content analysis tool, which included(5) groups for the child rights represented in: The civil and Political rights, social rights of the Child, the child rights to live, the economic rights and the child scientific and cultural rights.
Second: to identify the views of the adequacy of the concepts of child rights in the books of religious education at the basic education -the second stage-in the Syrian Arab Republic for the academic year 2009/2010 A.C. from the viewpoint of teachers and supervisors.
The researcher has emptied the resolution through a program (SPSS) statistical methods was used the following statistics: frequencies, averages and percentages, to find a resolution reliability coefficient was used Cranach’s alpha correlation coefficient.
It was found the following results:
• Occupied by a group of children's rights to life the first rank relative weight of (36.51), and was civil and political rights in the second relative weight of (29.55), and in third place came the social rights relative weight of (21.95).
•To the basic concepts, the concept of life came in first place with relative weight of (61.63), and the concept of education occupied the second relative weight of (10.54),the concept of freedom came in the third place with relative weight of (8.46).
• For the sub concepts came in the first place the concept of an inherent right to life with relative weight of (16.72), followed by the concept of the right to name a percentage of (9.51), while the finished concept of protection from abuse, neglect and violence ranked third as a percentage of (9.18).
The results showed that the minimum rights in the rate of recurrence and overall positive were:
• for groups, a group of economic rights as a percentage of (4.81).
• The basic concepts did not return any repetition of the concepts of social security and social rehabilitation.
• The sub-concepts did not mention any repetition of each of the concept of social and psychological rehabilitation and the concept of adequate standard of living and the concept of parental responsibility for providing adequate standard of living.
The results of adequacy from the viewpoint of teachers and mentors of specialists, the results showed:
• adequacy of the results from the viewpoint of teachers, the order of the child rights groups, as follows:
Ranked first range of economic, and second, a group of civil rights, political, and came in the third set of scientific and cultural rights, and in fourth place came the social rights, and in fifth place came the rights of the child to life.
The basic concepts in combination, have won the first place the concept of social rehabilitation In the second place the concept of participation came, and the third concept of protection, and in the fourth place the concept of freedom came, the concept of health came in the fifth place, and the concept of social security in the sixth place, and concept of security ranked seventh, and ranked eighth came concept adequate standard of living, the concept of entertainment came in the ninth on the list, and ranked tenth the concept of care and a family, and ranked eleventh came the concept of equality, and ranked the concept of education in the twelfth, and ranked as before, came the concept of preservation of identity, which ranked last is the concept of life.
• the adequacy of the perspective of supervisors?
The order of the five groups on the rights of the child was as follows:
In the first place, a group of economic rights, and then a group of social rights came in the second, and third place, a group of scientific and cultural rights, and then in the fourth set of civil, political, and finally, a group of children's rights to life came.
The basic concepts together from the perspective of supervisors, we find that the concept of social rehabilitation was ranked first, the concept of protection came in the second, and third place came the concept of participation came, and in fourth place the concept of freedom came, the concept of health in the fifth, and sixth place came the concept of Social Security, and came in seventh place the concept of adequate standard of living, and in eighth place came the concept of security, came in ninth place the concept of care and family formation, and in tenth place was the concept of entertainment, and ranked eleventh came the concept of equality, and occupied the concept of education ranked second session, In third place came the concept of ten to maintain the identity and the concept of life came in last place.
• The results of hypotheses has shown results of the study that there was no statistically significant differences at the level of statistical significance (0,05) in the level of estimates of the sample members of the teachers of religious education according to gender, academic qualifications and experience in the adequacy of the Rights of the Child in the books of religious education.
• There is no statistically significant differences at the level of statistical significance (0,05) in the level of sample-based estimate of the supervisors of religious education according to the variable of educational qualification, and the existence of significant differences according to gender and experience in the adequacy of the Rights of the Child in the books of religious education.
The study suggests a number of proposals including:
1. Examine the general policy of education in Syria and stand on the requirements and the reasons for the preparation and implementation of child rights education curricula in institutions of public education in Syria.
2. Identify issues and concepts related to rights of the child appropriate to each level of education, by referring to the sources of law to draw the rights prescribed by Islam, and seeking the lists drawn from the research and studies emanating from the child rights organizations of local, regional, and global, as well as local research conducted at universities Syrian, Arab and Islamic.
3. Teaching children's rights from the kindergarten stage and not from the stage of basic education as an important stage in the formation of the child's personality.
4. Conduct similar studies dealing with the knowledge of the rights of the child to school students in various stages of study, as well as comparative studies of the extent of knowledge of children's rights among public schools.
5. Analysis of textbooks and under the supervision of a higher committee is interested in the rights of the child to delete the negative perceptions and reinforce positive concepts.
