The Effect of Using a Computer Programme in Teaching Grammar on the First Secondary Grade Students in Jeddah City
Abstract in English: 
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using computer in teaching grammar to first year students in secondary schools, Jeddah , Saudi Arabia at the first two categories of Bloom Taxonomy ( Knowledge and Comprehension ) . In this study , the use of computer, as an instructional tool in teaching grammar, is compared to the conventional method that depends on verbal explanation and the use of pupil's book, the board and board markers. To achieve this purpose, the researcher applies a quasi-experimental study during the second semester of the academic year ١٤٢٨ – ١٤٢٩ AH. The sample of the study, which was consisted of ( ٤٢ ) students , were chosen intentionally from Al-Quds Secondary School in Jeddah . The sample of the study was divided into two groups : ١. Experimental Group, which was consisted of ( ٢٢ ) students , studied the target lessons using a computer as an instructional tool . ٢. Controlled Group , which was consisted of ( ٢٠ ) students, studied the target lessons u sing the conventional method . The topic chosen for the study was the verb tense , namely simple tenses : ( Present, Past and Future ). The tool of the study was an achievement test designed by the researcher and given to specialized arbitrators to judge its suitability and validity before applying it . § Results : ١. There were statistical significant differences in the students' achievement between the experimental group and the controlled group at the knowledge level in favor of the experimental group . ٢. There were statistical significant differences in the students' achievement between the experimental group and the controlled group at the comprehension level in favor of the experimental group . ٣. There were statistical significant differences in the students' achievement between the experimental group and the controlled group at the whole post-test in favor of the experimental group . § Recommendations and suggestions : According to the study findings, the researcher recommends and suggests the following : ١. Implementing the use of computer in teaching English language . ٢. Encourage English teachers to use computer as an instructional tool in teaching English grammar and other language skills ( Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing ), as it contributes the students effective learning . ٣. Encourage researchers to undertake more study to investigate the effectiveness of using computers in teaching grammar in other educational levels . ٤. Encourage researchers to undertake more study to investigate the effectiveness of using computers in teaching grammar at the level of analysis , synthesis and evaluation of Blooms' Taxonomy of cognition.
