RECIDIVISM AMONG RECIDIVIST FEMALE INMATES AT AL-JUWIDA CORRECTIONAL AND REHABILITATION CENTER FOR WOMEN

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to identify the socioeconomic characteristics of repeated female offenders and whether they differ in their recidivism rate based on those characteristics, also to identify the major offenses that committed by those inmates, and if there any significant differences based on having family members or friends with prior criminal record.
Data for this study was collected through questionnaire that was administered to all convicted inmates resides at the Women correctional center at the time of the study.
Chi-square test revealed statistically significant difference on recidivism, based on present age and mother education. While no significant differences were found on recidivism and education, marital status, work, monthly income, father education and place of residence. Also, results chi-square test show significant differences on recidivism and respondents having family members and friends with prior criminal record. Although around half of the inmates were subject to domestic violence, no significant differences on recidivism was found based on family violence.
The study concluded with a number of recommendations regarding further research and proposed programs for inmates.
