The reality of teaching in English in scientific disciplines at Hadramout University for Science and Technology from the perspective of students and faculty members
Abstract in English:
The present study aimed to identify the reality of teaching in English in scientific disciplines at Hadramout University for Science and Technology from the perspective of students and faculty members. The study population of all scientific colleges' students (Environment, Nursing, Medicine, Science and Engineering) at Hadramout University for Science and Technology, as well as faculty members of these colleges for the academic year 2009/2010, who are (3633) students and (138) faculty members. While the study sample consisted of (1401) students and (47) faculty members, were selected in a stratified random way. The researcher used in this study the descriptive approach. In this study, the researcher builds a tool which is a questionnaire and make sure of its sincerity and stability.The results showed that both students and faculty members did not agree that the faculty member uses the English language to explain the decision of the English language. And revealed the results of this study also that there are significant differences between the estimates of science college's students due to the variable of sex (male, female) for females. as well as there are significant statistically significant differences between the estimates of science college's students due to the variable of scientific college (Environment, Nursing, Medicine, Science, Engineering) in favour of College of Nursing. There are no statistically significant differences between the estimates of science colleges' students due to the variable of study levels (I, II, III, IV and V). Moreover, there are significant differences between the estimates of science colleges' students due to the variable degree (Excellent, Very Good, Good , accepted) for students with excellent average. No statistically significant differences between the averages of estimates of the faculty members of scientific faculties due to the variable of sex (male, female). There are also no statistically significant differences between the estimates of faculty members due to the variable of teaching experience. And there are no statistically significant differences between the estimates of faculty members due to the variable of university graduation. Moreover, there are significant differences between the averages of estimates between estimates of science colleges' students and the faculty members in the same college in favour of the faculty members. In the light of the results of this study, the researcher recommended the preparation of an intensive training program for students in the first year of specialization include scientific terms and language skills necessary to master. Preparation of a training program for language education for faculty members in line and contemporary educational trends in the roles of the university teacher to do it properly especially with regard to language teaching and development. And provide them with skills that enable them to choose appropriate teaching methods, and thus match their career, and enable them to be more effective with their students. Encourage faculty members to achieve growth, scientific, and through encouragement to attend scientific meetings in a variety of college or beyond. Activating the role of public administration curriculum at the university. Studies on training needs for faculty members to use English in the teaching of scientific disciplines in Hadramout University of Science and Technology.
